The only real thing I have out there is a screenplay based from my Livejournal as filler in film festivals. So really, have I earned the right to call this phase I'm having a "writer's block". In a sense, I haven't done anything really substantial. And my musings to the web really is just a sick masturbation by a regular schmoe. It's more than halfway through this year's Nanowrimo, and yet I stare at the blank screen wanting to type something. Hell I want to outline something, but nothing seems to come out. I heard it's the first three pages that lead you break the inertia of procrastination. Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT [Wednesday November 11th, 2009 2:00pm] lj_maintenance [dwell] EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP. Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!! Thanks mhwest and dnewhall for helping out! --- On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice. Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials. We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. The workspace I occupy at my sometimes-job is separated from most of my other work colleagues’; it’s a small office room instead of a cubicle, roughly twentyish by fifteen feet. One other person shares this space with me, but as he’s often away on meetings and trips I am usually by myself most days when I roll out of bed and remember that I have a job. France aka neo_hippie_cat introduced me to Aoi-chan as "Yasu's girlfriend". So when I went in the bathroom to change my clothes, she was asking France where Yasu's girlfriend is XDDDD And when I came back, she asked me if I went to Yasu's house to take care of him when he got sick. I crack up everytime she tells me something about the eito rangers like when the mannequin made Yasu cry. She even asked me kindly not to do the same thing to him! Isn't she such a sweetheart!? She even drew something for me! Today, I received some lovely stuffs! My Irei Kanata postcards from puzzlepiece finally arrived Irei is soooo gorgeous in those postcards that I feel guilty for putting my Musical Elisabeth pamphlet on sale ( Irei <333 ) And France and Venice aka kitsunemd gave me Kagotsurube's flyer! It gets lonely in here sometimes. [Tuesday November 10th, 2009 6:20pm] teeth_for_eyes Sometimes im reminded how easily users shift to one journal format to another. The natural yearning of man to improve, and be attracted to better or new things, dropping off the old like shedding one's skin. And there are those who still stick to the old, tedius, now boring formats. Perhaps out of loyalty, or perhaps out of laziness to learn anything new. Either way, as time progresses, the popular reason of writing one's thoughts in LJ comes to light: the need of not just writing down your thoughts, but the need to have someone, anyone, react to them. Thus most of us simply move on to places where we get noticed the most. In the meantime, it gets lonely in here. :P Still, its nice to write down thoughts where currently only very few can read, or care to. Dilemma... Confused [Monday November 9th, 2009 11:42am] minireia [ mood | anxious ] Have you been torn in a situation wherein you can't decide whether you should stay loyal or fight in fulfilling your dreams? Well, I am... now... Apparently, I've longed for a longer shift in my current company that will pay me more, and will make me a notch higher than my position... in other words, promotion. Just recently, a door has been opened for me for this opportunity... but I'M TORN! You see, my current boss is the reason why I am working in this wonderful company in a very good community. But stepping up would mean I will have to leave our department (elementary) and shift to another. I'm afraid of what she'll think or feel. If you were in my position, what will you do? It's a choice between taking a plunge at the opportunity or staying loyal. Ugh! I'm sooo confused... Anyway, enough of that drama... here's what I want for today...
